The first and most important tip for lowering cholesterol is very simple. Significantly limit or eliminate all types of meat, red or white. Plasma apolipoprotein B is positively associated with animal protein, and lowered or inversely associated with vegetable protein intake (legumes, greens etc.). This means animal protein has a significant effect on raising cholesterol levels, while plan protein lower it (Furhman, 2011).
Studies show, that eating beans and peas or lentils just twice a week was associated with a fifty percent lower risk of cancer and rise in cholesterol. A good book to reference this subject is Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Furhman MD.
Another beneficial step you can take toward lowering your cholesterol is to drink GREEN TEA! The benefits of green tea are widely published and worth noting. So, less coffee… more green tea! 🙂 Eat more garlic!!! If you shy away from it because you are afraid people may not appreciate your efforts to lower your cholesterol, then take it in gel cap form. Garlic will lower your blood pressure, and assist in lowering cholesterol. Use it liberally!
And while you’re at it, how about changing your eating habits, to incorporate more raw fruits and vegetables? By eating your food raw without the slathering of butter and salt, you are actually providing your body with nutrition, instead of just satisfying your taste buds. You will find you are satisfied quicker, eat much less and cholesterol levels are of no concern.
Most people would prefer to take a pill so they can continue eating all the toxic “pleasures” they have become addicted to. But you have to ask the question, do you really feel well eating poorly? Is it worth it? FYI, true long-term vegetarians will almost never have heart attacks.
Finally, daily load bearing exercise like walking is very beneficial and easy to incorporate into even the busiest of lifestyles. Let’s face it, this is America, we know how to get what we want. If you really want to be healthy, you CAN!!!! Your body knows how to regulate, repair, rebuild and maintain a healthy state. It just needs the right tools!!!
It is also very important to keep your bowels clean and moving. You should have at least 3 bowel movements a day. If you are eating a diet free of meat and dairy and processed foods, and rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes and seeds, you will have no problem accomplishing this. Count the cost. Is pleasure eating really producing pleasure? How about a trade… longevity for junk food. What do you say?
